AN IMPORTANT OBSERVATION Vis-à-vis ITHURIEL
A quick aside: in their reading experience, all sword-&-sorcery (sword-&-soul) fans encounter Robert E. Howard’s “Conan, the Barbarian”—usually earlier than later. I know that I did. Saying otherwise is disingenuous.
Given the character’s outsized—but deserved—presence, most fans don’t know that REH only spent about 3 years (1931 - 34) writing about Conan. A lot of current Conan stories are built on his notes & short stories. (He only wrote one full Conan novel.)
Nonetheless, there’s a world full of Conan narratives. Many writers & artists have added to the character’s library since Howard’s passing.
I want—& have crafted—Ithuriel to also be open for fellow creators to “play in my sandbox.”
The narrative has a SOLID timeline. Throughout volumes 01, 02 & 03, there are landmarks in his life, in supporting characters’ lives & in his era that are immutable. But there are plenty of gaps & places that are open for interpretation.
In fact, a number of fellow creators are co-writing Ithuriel chapters with me. Other artists are illustrating/interpreting the character’s life. Since each of the three volumes has 36 chapters, there’s plenty of room to be creative.
