The Société de la Macabre

The Société de la Macabre was created in the early 17th century. A hybrid/offshoot from that era’s high French society (founded by excommunicated priests & members of the French nobility), the organization built its power by manipulating Bourbon Era social politics. During the French Revolution, The Société expanded its influence across Europe.

Due to colonialism, the occult organization became global. However, unlike nearly all European incursions around the world, the Société was non-discriminatory. If a person’s abilities in the occult & their dedication to the Société’s goals/guidelines were sterling, that person was/is welcome.

From the Industrial Age’s beginning, nearly every government & corporation was being covertly influenced by the Société. In most cases, the organization used its “soft power” to achieve its goals. Nonetheless, its goals remain personal & global.

Every major city around the world has a secret Société chapter. These groups cooperate with each other. But they are also in fierce competition with each other. This competition may be region vs. region, country vs. country, hemisphere vs. hemisphere or necromancer vs. necromancer.

These members are ALWAYS in search of a way to achieve supremacy.

This is why Cocidius MacMurchadha’s creation—even just rumors of this mega-familiar—incite nearly all of the Société’s members to desperately & diligently search for it. And for the boy who is reputed to associate with the creature. Society members from across the world will do anything (not “almost” anything) to acquire the demi-beast.
